Motor Overview
The Shimano STEPS EP8 DU-EP800 Motor is Shimano’s flagship mid-drive motor designed for modern E-MTB, trekking and urban e-bikes.
This unit is brand new OEM stock, unused and supplied in replacement packaging rather than a retail box. Software version below 4.17 is installed, allowing future firmware updates if preferred. Compatible with Shimano STEPS systems, the motor delivers 250W continuous power and up to 85Nm of torque while maintaining a lightweight magnesium construction.
We recommend installation through a Shimano service centre for any pairing requirements. However, many customers have successfully installed the motor and completed setup using Shimano’s E-Tube app.
Featuring a compact design and reduced weight of approximately 2.6kg, the EP8 offers improved bike handling and excellent riding dynamics. In addition, Shimano redesigned the motor to provide lower pedalling resistance and quieter operation compared to previous generations.

The Shimano STEPS EP8 DU-EP800 Motor was developed for riders who want strong assistance while maintaining a natural riding feel. Because of Shimano’s refined motor tuning, power delivery remains smooth and predictable even on technical terrain.
Furthermore, the 85Nm torque output provides excellent climbing support on steep gradients. Therefore, the motor performs exceptionally well on modern E-MTBs while also being suitable for trekking and commuter bikes.
At the same time, the lightweight magnesium construction helps reduce overall bike weight. As a result, handling remains agile while maintaining the durability required for demanding riding conditions. Shimano also reduced internal drag, improving efficiency when riding above the assistance limit.
Moreover, Shimano’s E-Tube ecosystem allows riders to customise assistance modes and update firmware when required. Consequently, the system can be tailored to suit different riding styles and terrain.
